Refugee Sponsorship

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. (Matthew 25:35 NIV)

God calls us in many places through his word to reach out in kindness to those in pain, to redress oppression, and specifically to welcome strangers and those who are wandering from home due to famine or war (e.g. Deut 10:19, Deuteronomy 24:14, Exodus 23:9). There are more refugees on our planet this year, both internally displaced and those who have left their home countries, than there were following World War II.

In response, our community of St. Vital EMC has committed to sponsoring a family of up to 4 members from Sudan or other African country. We will be responsible for part of the financial costs of the family for their first year in Canada, which amounts to about $24,000. The Canadian Government is also providing 6 months of support to the family. We have already raised $8,000. We are hoping to raise an additional $8,000 by the end of August and the remaining $8,000 by the end of 2017.

More than finances however, will also be the role of friends and guides as the family learns language and new customs and rebuilds their lives.

We invite your support in prayer, volunteering and in financial support to help us reach our fundraising goal.

We hope the family will arrive before the end of 2017 and will provide further updates as we go along.
