Breaking Christmas Chains
December 1, 2016

Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was a miserly, wet blanket kill-joy went it came to Christmas celebrations.  Like his deceased partner, Scrooge was in bondage to ledgers, cash boxes, deeds, padlocks, etc.  He saw Christmas as “bah humbug.”

It could be that we too are bound by unrealistic expectations, anxieties, being overwhelmed with work, busyness, shopping, cooking, hosting parties, etc.  Many are in bondage to anger, bitterness, disappointment and resentment.  Truth of the matter is that there are many disappointing and difficult circumstances in life but they do not need to define who we are in.  We can make choices in how we will respond to disappointments.  God can change our “bah humbug” attitudes to thanksgiving and celebration, breaking the bad attitude chains of bondage.

What are some negative attitudes and actions you are holding on to?  They will never bring positive results.  Own your sinful attitudes and actions and confess them to God, receiving the forgiveness and cleansing that only he can provide.  Focus on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ who came to take away the sins of the world.  Break the chains that bind you to “bah humbug” feelings and chose to truly celebrate.

So what is holding you back?  What are the chains that keep you from rejoicing?  What will you do to enjoy and celebrate Christmas?
