Do you ever feel blue, sluggish or unmotivated? My niece recently came up with a good idea to get her elderly dad to move about more and get ‘activated’! She called it the Jericho (Wellness Action Plan)!

In the book of Joshua, God gave the children of Israel a unique strategy for waging a battle to capture the city of Jericho. The Israelites were to march around the walls of Jericho seven days in a row and on that last day they were to shout and blow the horns and the walls would ‘come a-tumblin’ down’.

Fighting those feelings of being blue, sluggish or unmotivated can feel like a battle. Using the number seven as her guide, my niece gave her dad the following instructions:  (I’ve changed a few to suit the purpose of a wider audience.)

    • Stand on your porch and take in 7 deep breaths of fresh air. To those of you at work or elsewhere, find a spot away from people where you can do this even if you can’t go outside.
    • Walk around in the house 7 times. To adapt this to others, you could either walk around your yard or work place hallways.
    • Drink 7 less Pepsi’s! J Or less coffee, sweets, etc. Even one less is a good start!
    • Go on social media 7 x 7 less minutes per day!
    • Read 7 encouraging Bible verses. (Proverbs 17:22, Phiippians 4:8, Joshua 1:9, Isaiah 41:10, Philippians 4:11, Psalm 55:22, Psalm 23:4)
    • Smile at someone at least 7 times in the day! And if you’re all alone, smile at yourself in the mirror 7 times! Be your own best  friend; you know what makes you smile and feel  good!
    • Think of 7 things for which you can be grateful!

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified,; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
